Dear Bee-lievers!
It was slow but ultimately satisfying work getting the combs of three families through the press and some of the honey strained. Lise and Dan, thank you for setting us up in your kitchen-to-be. There was room for all the helpers. Sherry captained the press and Lise captained the refining step that filtered out a great deal of the wax flakes.
Olallie, Starr, Merrin, Davie, Rachel, Anya all helped. Robert came in just at the moment we started on the combs from the hive he and I share. Then Dan was home from work to see us get things cleaned up, sort-of. More cleaning tomorrow.
There were 4 plus gallons in one tub. What was in the other? This is product shared by Patty and Lise and Dan. Robert & I have about 2 and 1/2 gallons. When we get it clarified, we hope to share with the bee-lievers.
This was a hands-all-the-way-in learning experience! We are finding some things to repeat. refine, and never repeat! As it was slow work, we were able to revive what many quilters and foragers know--slow work provides a great opportunity for unhurried conversation!
Loving it,
Erik
