A Kenyan Top Bar Hive (TBH) was installed with a fertile queen & 2 lb. package of Italian bees last Sunday. They appear to be active; although it's been too cold to peek inside. Please do not disturb the bees. They are a small hive needing to work to get brood and honey stores underway. That takes tremendous energy on their part & fending off humans requires energy they don't have to spare.
We will be getting paving & planting around the hive, plus a low fence to keep children out of harm's way installed this summer. In the meantime, keep at a distance of 6' or more & don't let children run up to the hive.
Today, Rexius will deliver 5 yds. of garden mix soil for the planting beds. There are also three bags of compost to amend those beds. Saturday, we'll be planting peas and greens. If you'd like to help, wander down around 10 am. We'll put you to work!
