Dear Neighbors,
I just received the following from Kelly Putnam at the University Police substation. Fortunately, these burglaries are not occurring in our neighborhood, but they are nearby, Note that entry is by unsecured windows and doors.
Lock that screen door and go sit in the sun!

Dear Landlords,
First, I apologize for using this format for something other than incident report emails, but the Chief feels this issue is so important that we need to use every resource available to us to get the word out.
In the last two weeks, there have been approximately 20 residential burglaries in the West University neighborhood. In EVERY instance, the
property was a rental unit, and the resident had left doors or windows unsecured or open.
Most of these burglaries have occurred at night, as opposed to the "knock and go around" day time burglaries that have been occurring recently in south Eugene. Please take this opportunity to educate your tenants on the importance of securing their residences during all hours of the day and night. West University residents have lost
thousands of dollars worth of property in the last couple of weeks...all preventable.
Thanks so much for your attention to this matter.
