Sherry Wellborn & Karen Austin are brewing vermicompost tea for sale on Saturdays at two locations: The Eugene Backyard Farmer (5th & Washington) and the Southtowne Shops (across from the rear Eugene Hardware parking lot at 28th & Oak). The tea is available after 10 am at Backyard Farmer and 10:30 at Southtowne. Sherry & Karen are using the outstanding vermicompost from Food for Lane County made by Rodney Bloom. The balanced recipe includes incubating half the compost prior to brewing to allow the fungi to grow. The 24-hour brewing includes aeration, humic acid, fish hydrolysate, and kelp. Cost is $4/gallon, and a quarter for the container, or bring your own. As you know, this is a perishable product best used within 4-6 hours of brewing. Karen & Sherry are starting with small batches, so get there early if you want some. They'll be at these sites most Saturdays this summer. If you want to be sure you'll get tea call or email.
