2010 Field Classes
These classes are part of a continuing effort to expand our knowledge and appreciation of The-World-Around-Us. Discussions cover the full range of natural sciences, from anthropology to zoölogy. Small classes (maximum enrollment ten) and a varied program create a pleasant learning environment.
Transportation is by comfortable, late-model van, the cost of which is included in the Basic Class Fee. Except for one motel-based class, lodging for multi-day classes is in personal tents on public land (e.g., national forest). And camping is always near the van, which provides a secure food pantry and an emergency refuge.
The Basic Class Fee for multi-day classes is still only $50/day; for one-day classes, it’s $40. A Supplemental Fee is required for meals—which for multi-day classes are communal and savory (and not entirely meatless), at a cost of just $10/day—and lodging and gasoline surcharge, if applicable.
Each participant must sign a release form acknowledging that outdoor activities can be dangerous—and accepting all risks of the class and associated activities as his/her own responsibility.
